What coolant type is used in the Cummins 8.3L 6cta engine?

I have The BEAST in the shop and the RV tech called Cummins and they said their are 17 different types.
- Do you know what you used, and how much / cost.
- Did you drain in yourself or paid for service.

I haven't done mine yet, previous owner had done it with the Amsoil environmentally friendly stuff. I have just changed the coolant filter each year and tested the DCA additive level each year & added a bit when needed.

Hey Matt, wondering how the coolant service went and what type you ended up using? How much did it take?

Did not do the coolant change at this time but did do the coolant filter change. Oil change and new filter LF9009, Water Separator and Fuel Filter, 25 quarts oil. , Generator filter and oil change - 664.00 later

I purchased an EZ drain plug and had them install it so the next oil change will be easier.

Also i had the RV repair shop do this change because the previous owner said that it was done last year and well he lied. They had a hard time getting all the filters off and said that the coolant filter was so old that the part number was discontinued, they pulled it off and nothing came out.

After the new engine blood was installed the coach ran much better and has lots more power.

That's crazy! Sure hope that no permanent damage was done by the neglect! Cummins is tough though so I would imagine that it will be ok now that it has a good owner.

Good that you did coolant filter since it's important to maintain that DCA level in the coolant. After you run it for a while with the new filter you should test the DCA level to make sure it's up to acceptable level. The new filter will have some in it if they put the correct one on, there are different filters that will fit but have different amounts of additive in them, or none. Buy some to add if needed to protect your cylinders.
