So when do you need to re-certify your propane tank and how do you remove it from the chassis on the spartan?

Thanks for this great question! I have neglected to work on ours as it has been functioning well but definitely needs attention being a big safety item.

Unfortunately our Moho is in winter storage now and I cannot find a pic of our tank in my documentation. Having the tank permanently installed in the coach like most Class A's is an ASME tank, not a DOT tank unless someone modified it somewhere along the way. The ASME tanks don't require re-certification. Basically they just have to look like they are in decent condition.

The important thing is to have the relief valve checked and replace the flex hose at the tank. I found an article that said relief valve every 10 years and hose every 15 years. Not an official document but sounds like a smart way to go.

Apparently some propane dealers will think your ASME tank is too old and needs re-certification and they will refuse to fill it. Not sure how we deal with that, maybe a good cleanup, some spray paint and a re-certification tag on the relief valve would satisfy most???

Do you have a pic of your tank setup?

I went out and got some pics of our built in propane tank. I'm embarrassed that it is so filthy, top of list for spring is to clean, prime and paint.

The welded on label is normally an indication of an ASME certified tank that doesn't need re-certification. Ours was made by Brunner Engineering & Mfg and is an 85 pound tank so about the size of 4 standard barbecue tanks. Brunner was bought by Manchester Tank in November of 2000 and they can be reached at www.mantank.com or by phone at 800-926-2791.

The relief valve that should be replaced or re-certified is in the far upper left of this pic.
