  • Another issue - Do Not Leave a Light on in the RV when in storage

Well 4 hrs later I got the generator to start, then additionally another hour later the coach started. And a vehicle on one battery at a time. All four batteries were 8v due to the bedroom 12v light bulb accidentally left on.

Josh if you have a schematic and pictures of how it should be wired it would help me get mine started in the right direction.

I have a friend that can get me Interstate Batteries with a discount, so what should I be looking for.

Once I get started I will youtube my switch over to the proper or ideal system.
You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 4 photos.

Ya gotta love it, what a pain. Sorry to hear that frustration! Surprised all 4 were drained, something is not wired right or battery interconnect is faulty. Two batteries for engine start should be totally separate from the two house batteries unless you are holding the spring loaded switch on the dash to engage the interconnect.

First, do you have a house battery cut off switch that you can turn off when storing? Ours is on the right by the steps just as you enter the coach. That could help in the future.

Second, I always hook up battery tender juniors when storing, one to each pair of batteries, and then check after a while that the lights on battery tenders turn green. If there is a draw the battery tender light on the affected pair of batteries should stay red unless it is a very low draw. But in case of a low draw the battery tender will keep your batteries in the game.

Ours has 4 regular Interstate truck batteries that have worked well for a few years now. If I was getting new ones I would look at the newer technology AGM batteries or at least some type of deep cyle ones for the house batteries. On our Europremier the house batteries are on the right when looking into the back engine compartment.

I will try to get out later this week and grab the books with wiring diagrams. Unfortunately we have to store ours for the frozen winter here and I was a dummy and forgot to bring the manuals to the house.

    Videos would be awesome!

Here's the house battery cutoff switch by our entry door. Doesn't shut off everything but could possibly prevent house batteries from getting killed.

I've looked thru the schematics that I have and don't see any that would be helpful for the back end battery setup. Your pictures look similar to the way mine is setup. I would hope that yours is wired correctly now and you just need to insert new batteries and then find out why your battery banks both drained when theoretically only one bank should have been drained by the light being left on.

Hey, possibly good news. I kept digging thru all our Champion's paperwork and found some electrical info you may find helpful. Working on scanning now.

          Electrical Function Chart.pdf

My scanner isn't big enough for the wiring diagram but I was able to scan the chart of all the electrical functions into a PDF and take a photo of the main wiring diagram. I will have to take diagram to Kinkos or Staples to get scanned for higher resolution if you need it.

Keep those schematics coming. I don't have any and they are very helpful for rebuilding my MoHo's manual. Thank you so much. Maybe once I get my Beast set for longer travel we can meet up camping.

Yer welcome! That would be cool, wish we could find more peeps with these Champion Motorhomes and other neat old beasts.

I'll keep working on scanning as I can. Thinking about starting a Library section to consolidate them so they aren't just scattered among different posts.
